Natural Colombian Emerald Gemstone
Colombian Emerald
Emeralds, in Asia widely known as Zamrud, are really fascinating beryl crystals. They possess the most wonderful, most intense and a lot green lustre which can often be described as green precious gemstone. Inclusions are common and tolerated. In the world gemstone market, good quality emeralds, without inclusions, are much more valuable than diamonds.

The name emerald originates from the Greek 'smaragdos' through the Old French words 'esmeralde', and really means 'green gemstone'. Many fantastic stories have raised up for this magnificent green gemstone. The Incas and Aztecs of South America, the location where the best emeralds continue to be found today, regarded the emerald in the form of holy crystal. However, possibly the oldest known finds were once made nearby the Red Sea in Egypt. That being said, these gemstone mines, already exploited by Egyptian pharaohs between 3000 and 1500 B.C. and later known as 'Cleopatra's Mines'.

The country of Colombia remains on top of the list where fine and shiny emeralds tend to be found. Famous of its name, The "Colombian Emerald", there are about 150 known deposit areas, though not every one of these are getting exploited. The very best known region names are Muzo and Chivor, where emeralds were mined by Incas in old Columbian times. The most crucial mine now is located at Coscuez, where some 60 spots are increasingly being worked. Approximately 75 % of Colombia's emerald production now is produced by the Coscuez Mine. Colombian emeralds vary from emeralds from other deposits in that they have a particularly fine, shining emerald green. The color are vastly different slightly from place to place. This fascinatingly beautiful colour is indeed highly esteemed within the international emerald trade that even obvious inclusions are considered to be acceptable. But Colombia has yet more to offer. Now and then the Colombian emerald mines unearthed some very rare emerald, for instance the Trapiche emeralds with their six rays emanating through the center.

Even though most of the best emeralds are undisputedly of Colombian origin, the 'birthplace' of the green color gemstone has never been a complete guarantee of their high quality. Fine emeralds also are present in other countries, including Zambia, Brazil, Rusia, India, Madagascar, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Zembabwe. Zambia, Brazil, and Zembabwe particularly possess a good track record of fine emeralds in the international Gemstone trade. Excellent emerald crystals in a beautiful, deep green color along with good transparency originate from Zambia. But nevertheless, their colour is usually darker compared to Colombian emeralds. Emeralds which might be mostly smaller, but very fine, in a vivacious, intense green originate from Zimbabwe, the Sandawana Mine, and they usually have a delicate yellowish color. Today, the famous emerald mines of Colombia currently face competition from right nearby: Brazil's gemstone mine, Nova Era also produces emeralds in beautiful green color, and when they are really less attractive compared to those of their famous neighbour it is merely small amount. Brazil also supplies rare emerald cat's eyes and the very rare emeralds which includes a six-spoked star. Due to the finds in Africa and Brazil, increasingly more emeralds available on the market now than there was previously.
